Validate the measurement system for the Vital Xs

This step has the same flow as the step that considered the reliability of the Y data during Measure. The main difference is that the ongoing data collection for the Control phase must be fairly automatic and timely.

Establish operating tolerances on the Xs

The equations relating the customer specifications on the Ys need to be translated into operating tolerances on the Xs. You have done a lot of work in establishing these relationships. The responsibility of the process owners is to stay within the tolerances on the Xs. You must provide these for the process owners.

Implement process control and risk management

When effort is not put into monitoring a process, other business initiatives and entropy in general will result in the process drifting over time. The best Control plan is easy to maintain and provides everyone with the data to detect problems before they become too severe and the boundaries to stay away from a process that is operating well.
